Today is so yesterday...

Today is so yesterday
Tomorrow is fast approaching
No time to contemplate
The speed is scorching

Opening mine eyes
Ready to doze off
The cliff of fiscal responsibility
Makes one ready to jump off

Celebrations a-plenty
The losses are discouraging
The joys and the sorrows
Keep me a-whirling

The 31st is here
But just for a fleeting moment
The countdown begins
The 1st is speedily fervent

As the curtains close
And a door opens anew
Hope and anxiety arrive
I bid the past pains adieu

Time to make things happen
Plans are already set in motion
No recourse from the old
Full steam ahead is the notion

All that I ask
In this new year
Is to go a bit slower
Set in a steadier gear

Though somehow deep
Beneath my physical self
The soul knows better
What is to become of oneself

Today is so yesterday
Tomorrow is fast approaching
No time to contemplate
The speed is scorching.

Stuck in a stall...

The days grow weary
Or the saying goes
I have a search query
For deep inner flows

Where have you gone
In desperate straits
I am less fond
Questioning the fates

Is this to be
The way of life
It seems to flee
An incomprehensible strife

Encompassing the darkness
In flail and in flight
A candle spark-less
Going out of sight

The water is dry
I am grounded
In disbelief I deny
That I am grounded

But nevertheless alas
The day becomes night
Knowing to the last
Truth delivers fright

No flows to be seen
Designed in flaw
Loss of my esteem
Stuck in a stall...

Success is Reaching Your Personal Best

In a tribute to one of the most influential teachers in my life, John Wooden, who passed away yesterday. I have been blessed to first learn about this great man early in my life in college with a quote that I shall never forget:

"Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."

My Fate

As the door creaks open
A monstrous figure appears
Dripping tears and sweat
Ferociously emitting fears

He growls fiercely loud
Terrifying the soul
Heat emanates from him
Blanketing the cold

The eyes seek you out
Mystifying in terror
He sees through the dark
Into the most inner

A blaze is lit
Engulfed is the room
I have no way out
Impending doom

I can see the hunger
The agony and pain within
Locked up in dormancy
Too long has it surely been

Rage fuels him
It shrouds the damp air
Encircled in flames
Affixed with a devious stare

A sudden movement
Is all it takes
One swift strike
And death seemingly makes

The ground quickly quivers
He has made his move
The thunderous quake
Like a hammered screw

I fall in grace
He devours the mold
An explosive transformation
Bends into the fold

Awakened from slumber
From the ashes pitiful
Flight takes its strong form
A phoenix in full

Morphed from the dreary
I have become him
In hunger and piercing pain
Filled to the bitter brim

I have returned
From the land of nether
Darting toward the goal
Of the dreams of better

Long it has been lost
Now I gather in powerful force
The passion and motivation
My flight takes it course

I shatter through the door
For opportunities embrace
Trailblazing through stubborn rock
Leaving a clear trace

My soul is lit with fire
The fervor resonates
I'm focused on my desires
I'll make my fate.

You Were So Young

You were so young
Vibrant and vivacious
Effortlessly present
Focused on tenacious

Force to be reckoned
Painstakingly rough
Intent on the goal
Hearty and buff

Adored by many
Ready to display
On that awesome stage
But night taketh the day

On that perilous edge
Harnessing the power
Pushing forward
Never one to cower

You were so young
Too early to go
Life so fragile
Abrupt end to the show

Go in sweet peace
Sleep unperturbed
Eternal in rest
Slumber undisturbed.

As a tribute to the the fragile nature of life. Death stalks at every corner. Cherish what we have and live for the good fight. Any moment can be your last.

Death in the Desert

This is the end of days
The end of time
Dark clouds brew
I hear the bells chime

On this barren desert
With the thunderous clamor
Of lightning strikes
A mighty hammer

Laying inside the car
Resting with my foot out
This is it
Shrunken is my clout

All these years
Of dirty deeds
And broken trusts
Evil now feeds

Here I am alone
Myself and I
Faster my hearts beats
Soon I cannot deny

The pain I caused
Dirty under deals
Have led me here
Death is at my heels

I heave and breath
Caustically heavy
A shot through the chest
Blasted my steady

Though I did deserve
Such injurious treason
The hurt is unbearable
Pain scrambles reason

Why me I say
Then the rain drips
I struggle to see
My soul drops

What dreams may I see
On the other side
Terrified I realize
There is no other side.
